Lets not fool ourselves – there are more “how to plan the perfect wedding” articles on the internet than there are stars in the sky. So why reinvent the wheel? Here’s some we think have some great tips…

“Our GIANT List of Important Questions to Ask Wedding Venues” by Offbeat Brides

When you know you’re ready, it’s time to hash out ALL the details… it may look daunting, but it’ll be a major relief once you know EXACTLY what you’re looking for. This diligent list compiled by Catherine Clark (Offbeat Bride’s Senior Editor) will help you take the pain out of planning your big day.

There is even added a downloadable PDF that you can print out and make notes on with all 95 questions! It’s from the site founded by Ariel Meadow Stallings, a Seattle-based author who penned Offbeat Bride: Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides  – for couples who dare to walk off the beaten aisle.

Choose your dateAs an example, the very first point on the GIANT list is to make sure the date is available… we have a cunning tool to help with your initial search – our very own venue date search!

Just click this link, which has been set up to search for when The Shire Clerk’s Cottage is being used.

Then in the first box, change the month view to show the date/s you’re interested in, and voila – it will show if there are any bookings for the Cottage or if it’s free for you to book!

Provided no-one has booked it in the last 24 hours or so, you are very much in luck and should put in your booking request ASAP!

Our information page about the Cottage also covers questions 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 13, 15, 16 … you get the picture!

“Exactly What to Look for in a Wedding Reception Venue” by The Knot

With more of a focus on the mood, this article on The Knot helps you think about the look and feel of your wedding reception … remember that aside from tables and chairs, your guests will also be filling the area – will everyone and everything comfortably fit?

Luckily the lawn and paved reception area surrounding the Shire Clerk’s Cottage has all the space you need to eat, drink, mingle and dance – and of course the auditorium inside the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre’s main building is big enough to hold a sit-down wedding reception with dance floor and wiggle room to spare.

They also wisely raise the issue of privacy: many public spaces like parks and the waterfront have a lot of people enjoying their days, and you should be prepared for a wave from a passer-by. Being secluded off the road, the chances of this at the Cottage are quite slim, but it’s always a good reminder.

Another great point is their suggestion to visit the site at the same time of day you’ve chosen for your wedding. As the building is in a public space, this is no problem whatsoever, and will also give you a chance to wander down into the grove to scope out ideas for photos!

“10 tips to help you find and choose a wedding venue” by WedShed

The first of our three articles to come out fighting: “set a tentative budget”. It’s an important place to begin, and thanks to our incredible hire rates, when you marry at the Shire Clerk’s Cottage, you will be able to spend more money on other aspects of your special day.

You will be hard-pressed finding better value for wedding and reception venues of this calibre anywhere in Brisbane, let alone Wynnum.

A further great point they raise is to ask local vendors for their advice. We’ve been working with a number of wonderful people over the years and can heartily recommend you have a chat with them for their feedback and advice. You’ll find our list of friends on the “we recommend” page.
